The #33rides project

Our mission: to showcase and promote low-carbon, environmentally-friendly travel in Europe.

How? We've devised the 33rides challenge:

Visit 33* countries in Europe.
Bikes and trains only (+ ferries are allowed when water gets in the way).
At least one bike ride and one train ride in each country.
Cover 40,000km in total (that's one lap of the Earth).
Reach the four Cardinal Points of the European railway network: the northernmost, southernmost, easternmost and westernmost passenger stations.
Share the challenge with as many people as possible via our website, media and TwitterTubeBookStackAgram. Perhaps we will encourage or inspire someone else to try travelling more by bike or by train!
Time limit: 90 days.

Austria, Belgium, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Ireland, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Montenegro, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and the United Kingdom.

(And possibly a few bonus countries too, timetables permitting.)

One week to go! Are we ready? I think ready is perhaps putting it a bit strongly at this stage...

But we did update the Cardinal Points page because we discovered a new station in Turkey: Akyaka. (I use the word "discovered" in the loosest possible sense. It seems likely that other people already know about Akyaka...)
